FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Live Watch is what we call the P2's continuous recording mode.
The camera records real video at 1 frame per second, 24 hours a day. When motion happens, it ramps up to full frame rate to capture the moment in high resolution.
The difference from most "24/7" cameras is that many cameras claim 24/7 recording but actually rely on PIR motion detection, meaning the camera is asleep until something triggers it.
Sometimes that works. Sometimes it's seconds late. Sometimes it misses events entirely.
Live Watch removes the wake-up delay. The camera is already recording when the moment happens.
No.
Everything the camera does, including recording, alerts, live view, two-way audio, auto-tracking, and PTZ, works out of the box with the included 32GB SD card, so you do not need a paid cloud subscription to use the camera.
The only paid service is the cellular data plan on the 4G version:
- $15/month
- $140/year
Every 4G camera in this category requires cellular data. We charge $15 because that's what the cellular service costs.
Cloud storage is optional. The paid cloud plan starts at $4.99/month (with 6-month and annual options) and provides 7-day extended retention or 24/7 cloud recording. Most buyers never use it.
10 days at default settings.
Up to 20 days with lighter usage (under 10 motion events per day).
With normal sun exposure, even a few hours per day, the solar panel charges the system faster than the camera drains it.
The 26,000mAh combined battery is designed to ride through cloudy weeks, snow-covered panels, and short winter days.
No.
The main P2 is 4G LTE, which means it works over cellular networks, the same network your phone uses.
Install it anywhere with reasonable cell coverage.
No Wi-Fi required.
A Wi-Fi version of the P2 will be available around August 2026 for buyers who already have Wi-Fi at the install location.
The P2 ships with a universal SIM that automatically connects to the strongest available carrier.
United States carriers:
- AT&T
- Verizon
- T-Mobile
If you have weak signal at your install location, the Antenna Pro upgrade (sold separately) provides noticeably stronger reception.
Different cameras for different jobs.
S4 Pro
Our long-zoom, extreme-cold flagship.
- 20x hybrid zoom (10x optical + 10x digital)
- Operating range: -25°C to 60°C
- PIR-based motion detection
- Wake-up delay inherent to PIR systems
Best for large properties where you want to monitor distant areas and need maximum zoom capability.
P2
Our always-recording flagship.
- 5x hybrid zoom
- Dual-lens system
- Operating range: -10°C to 50°C
- Continuous video recording
- No PIR wake-up delay
- Larger battery
- Larger solar panel
Best for customers who prioritize capturing every event without missed moments.
The P2 is rated for -10°C to 50°C (14°F to 122°F).
It will operate reliably within that range.
Below -10°C, lithium-ion batteries lose efficiency and camera performance may be affected.
If you're protecting a property in extreme cold conditions (for example, northern Alberta during winter), the S4 Pro is the better choice.
It is rated to -25°C and specifically designed for severe cold-weather operation.
The P2 includes a 2-year warranty.
If anything fails within two years that is not caused by installation damage or weather conditions outside the operating range, we will replace it.
Additional details:
- No restocking fees on returns within 30 days.
- Real people answer the phone.
- Customer support: (877) 224-0705
- Support hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm PT.
Because being on the property doesn't mean you're watching it every second.
Most incidents happen when you're asleep, inside the house, working in the garage, away for the day, or simply not looking in the right direction at the right time.
The P2 acts as a second set of eyes that never stops watching.
Unlike motion-triggered cameras that wake up after movement starts, the P2 is already recording, so you see what happened before, during, and after the event.
Owners use it to:
- Monitor driveways and gates
- Watch workshops, barns, and outbuildings
- Keep an eye on deliveries
- Check on vehicles, RVs, and equipment
- See what's happening at night while they're asleep
- Maintain a record of activity when they're away from home

P2 vs S4 PRO
The P2 and the S4 Pro are both $499 Premium Invention flagships. They share the same form factor, 4K video, 4G LTE CAT4 chipset, PTZ range, IP66 rating, and app ecosystem. The differences below are what actually shape which camera fits your install.
WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Ever opened your app after an alert only to see someone walking away?
- You can't always be at the property
- You need continuous recording, not motion-triggered
- There's no WiFi where the camera goes
- You're in temperate climates or mild winters
- You're usually at the property
- You need extreme cold operation below -10°C (S4 Pro is rated to -15°C)
- You want maximum zoom range (20+ hybrid)
- Motion-triggered recording works for your use case
Some customers own both.

MARKETING vs REALITY
A buyer’s guide to this category, written by people inside it.
We read the reviews. Thousands of them. Across every major brand in this category, the same complaints keep showing up.
One of many: “By the time I recorded, they were gone.”
This page breaks down 5 marketing claims every camera makes, and what’s actually true before each one.
We sell cameras too. You’ll see where ours fits and where it doesn’t.
5 CLAIMS EVERY CAMERA MAKES.
HERE’S WHAT’S ACTUALLY TRUE.
Solar powered. Lasts all year.
What they claim:
Set it and forget it. Runs forever on sunlight.
Reality:
Most cameras ship with an 8,000–10,000 mAh battery. That works in perfect sunny conditions. During cloudy or rainy days, the panel produces a fraction of what the camera needs. The battery runs a daily deficit until the camera dies. To make it last longer, they reduce video quality, disable features, and put the camera to sleep most of the day. You’re not getting a solar-powered camera, you’re getting a camera that barely survives by doing less.
What buyers say:
- “When I touch the internal battery is dead”
- “Invested in multiple solar cameras, continuously died after 2 weeks.”
- “It’s a decoration in the winter”
What we did:
A 15W premium glass solar panel. 5x the regeneration power of standard panels, with roughly 25% more charging efficiency than standard materials. Charges through the conditions that kill smaller panels. Paired with a 20,000 mAh battery system, enough to run for months through extended poor weather. Others build down to a price. We built the power system the camera actually needs.
Smart detection. 99% accuracy. Never miss a moment.
What they claim:
AI-powered cameras that catch everything with near-perfect accuracy.
Reality:
Most cameras use a PIR sensor — a heat detector from the 1970s. The camera sleeps until the sensor detects a change in body heat. It sometimes wakes up on time, sometimes 3–8 seconds late, sometimes never, sometimes for no reason at all.
The reason it’s so inconsistent is that PIR depends entirely on heat contrast. If the person walks directly toward the camera instead of across the frame, the heat change is gradual and the sensor triggers slowly, or not at all. On a hot day, there’s less contrast between body heat and the air, so even more misses. Some brands claim AI analytics. The camera isn’t broken. That’s how heat detection works. No amount of AI accuracy matters if the sensor never wakes the camera in time.
What buyers say:
- “Someone stole $50,000 of equipment and we only have footage of the guy leaving.”
- “What’s the point of a security camera that doesn’t record when it matters most?”
- “So many alerts for no reason”
What we did:
Our True Capture Technology records real video at 1 frame per second, 24 hours a day, written continuously to local storage. The camera is already recording before anything happens. When motion is detected, it ramps to 10fps for smooth, full-motion video. You get the approach AND the event.
Because the camera sees through video instead of heat, AI detection finally works the way it’s supposed to, classifying what it sees as human, vehicles and packages, and catching motion up to 20 meters out, more than double the range of PIR. No heat guessing. No phantom alerts.
You can scrub to 2:47am on a Tuesday and the footage is there.
4G LTE connectivity.
What they claim:
Connect anywhere.
Reality:
Every 4G camera has a modem chip, and two chip categories matter most here: CAT4 and CAT1. CAT1 is the slower, lower-cost option at around 10 Mbps max. CAT4 is roughly 10 to 15 times faster.
Most cameras either ship CAT1 or don’t tell you which chip they use. They just print “4G LTE” on the box. Then you tap Live View and watch a loading spinner for 20+ seconds. With a CAT1 chip, the bandwidth for smooth 4K streaming physically isn’t there.
The reason brands don’t specify the chip is the same reason they won’t post average wattage: the honest number would make the marketing harder.
What buyers say:
- “Top up Live View and it just stopped checking in.”
- “Live view buffers so bad I stopped checking.”
- “Why does my camera never load?”
What we did:
CAT4 — significantly more expensive, but necessary for a smooth experience. Tap your screen, see what’s happening. Alerts arrive in seconds, not half a minute late. The SIM auto-connects to the strongest carrier signal at your location. We chose CAT4 because we ship 4K. If we’d shipped 1080p, the cheap chip would have been enough. We didn’t.
Always-on video. Continuous recording.
What they claim:
The camera records continuously. No gaps. Always watching.
Reality:
Some cameras in this category genuinely can record continuously. It’s right there in the settings. Turn it on and the camera records real video, all day.
For about one day. Then the battery dies.
Most panels and batteries were never sized for continuous recording. The feature exists on the spec sheet, but the power system can’t sustain it for you to use it. Once the battery drains to zero, and switches back to PIR mode just to keep the camera alive. The “24/7 recording” feature you paid for becomes a setting you can never actually use.
Other brands take a different stance. Instead of real video, they capture one still frame every 5 to 30 seconds and call it “always on.” One frame every 5 seconds means 4 out of 5 seconds are completely unrecorded. That’s not continuous. That’s a con flip.
What buyers say:
- “Turned on continuous mode, camera died overnight”
- “The 24/7 feature drains the battery in hours. Completely useless.”
- “I don’t know it doesn’t… always-on means always recording, it doesn’t”
What we did:
True Capture records at 1 frame per second, every second, every day, and we built the power system to sustain it. That’s why the 15W panel and 20,000 mAh battery exist. Not because we wanted bigger numbers on the box, but because real continuous recording demands real power. The two specs are one engineering decision.
No monthly fees.
What they claim:
Buy it once. No subscription needed.
Reality:
Some cameras genuinely work without a subscription. Others say “no subscription required,” but hide core features behind a monthly plan, including recording, cloud access, or event live view. Only to find out at checkout, or after the free trial expires.
On 4G cameras specifically, there’s almost always a cellular data plan that nobody mentions upfront. It’s usually $15–25/month. The marketing says “no fees.” The extended page says otherwise.
What buyers say:
- “Charged $192 in subscription fees on a camera that never worked”
- “Didn’t realize I’d be paying $12/month after I downloaded the app”
- “The ‘no subscription’ claim lasted until the free trial end”
What we did:
Every core feature works without any subscription: recording, alerts, live view, two-way audio, and auto-tracking. Storage saves to a local SD card, and when it fills up the camera overwrites the oldest footage so you never lose local coverage. A 32GB card holds about 13 years. Cloud is optional: if you want it, there’s a 7-day rolling event history for $4.99/month or $24.99/year and a separate 24/7 continuous cloud recording plan if you really want it, but neither is required for the camera to do its job. The 4G model does require a cellular data plan at $15/month or $140/year. The SIM is universal, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile in the city, or equivalent global coverage in Canada, the EU, and Australia. Data use is modest: 100–300 MB a day under normal use, more only if you stream live 24/7.
WHICH CAMERA IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
If your budget is tight, there’s nothing wrong with that, because a basic camera will still protect your property. A lower-resolution camera can save battery life, but the tradeoff is that you may deal with a few missed alerts, faster battery drain during long rainy or cloudy stretches. Just to name a few. And for a lot of people, that’s a fair trade.
If you’ve already been through that camera and you’re here because it wasn’t enough, then everything we built the P2 is for.
Every feature on this camera came from listening. To our own customers. To competitor reviews. To forum threads where buyers describe driving 90 miles in January to change a camera that was supposed to be solar-powered. We built the P2 to be the camera that just works, exactly as advertised. No settings to optimize. No features to disable. No battery to nurse.
If you’ve got the budget and you’re protecting something that matters, this is the camera built to do exactly what the box says.
